Fatigue assessment in sky mountaineering

The Patrouille de la Maya and Patrouille des Glaciers are international ski mountaineering races. In April 2016, we tested our device in one of the toughest competitions an athlete can take part in. The race distance, high altitude, extreme route profile and high alpine terrain are the main features of this unique competition.

The aim of the project, carryied out in partnership with the Clinique Romande de Réadaptation, was to bring together skills, equipment and know-how and focus them on the physiological characterization of athlete fatigue.

Various subjects were recruited to participate in this project and agreed to their physiological data being monitored throughout the training phase, but also during the race itself.

Fatigue assessment data:

  • ECG
  • Respiration
  • Acceleration of forearms
  • Tricepts and Bicepts EMG
  • GPS

We developed the technology to sync all the data coming from our accurate sensors and even stream it in real time onto a Dashboard. The result was that for the first time ever, it was possible to monitor all the synchronized data from selected athletes in real time during the PDG.

The objective of the CRR was to better manage and optimize physical preparation in order to obtain maximum performance.
